Well, it's been a busy few months! Ones without any time for holiday snaps. Boo. I've decided I'm going to make it one of my New Years' Resolutions to get back on track with my photos though. I will MAKE time! It feels wrong going through these sunny Barcelona pics now that we're in December (plus I have no fringe in these! Also feels wrong!) but I'm determined to get up to speed to see in the New Year :o)
So day two in Barce saw us visiting the huge Mercat de Boqueria on la Ramblas. We got the metro from Fontana to Lecieu, the doors swung open, and we were faced with the biggest load of stalls heaving under mountains of meats, fruits and vegetables I've ever seen. The market is open every day apparently, and has become one of the biggest tourist attractions in Barce. We were advised to make our way straight to the back stalls, where the locals shopped, and where everything was half the price of the stalls at the front of the market. We bought the most delicious fresh fruit smoothies (strawberry and coconut, and pineapple), which were so delicious, we had to buy two more! (mango, and pineapple and coconut). I think I'm going to have to try and make some smoothies with fresh coconut - they were incredible!
Weaving in and out of the rest of the stalls, we saw tongues, brains and sheep heads on sale amongst other things (sorry in advance for the photos...) My vegetarian-at-heart sister came over a little faint at the sight of these, so after a wee while it was time to leave...
Pleased to make your acquaintance...
Just off to buy some brains and hooves, dear...
... Sunday roast?
Phew! The rest of the day was spent wandering around in the sun, by the cathedral and along the port.
This is molten chocolate in a cup... they were just giving these away in the street. I didn't ask questions.
Before heading home to freshen up, we popped in to a cool little bar we'd discovered the night before, Avenue bar, for a big ol' jug of sangria and a knees up!
Dinner on Evening Two was at Karakala, where we feasted on a delicious Lebonese... well, feast! For a mere 22 euros each, we got a casual six starters to share between us, followed by Langoustine, and calamari with squid ink rice... mmm...
DONE!
